A Nation Struggling to Stay Healthy

Malaysia faces a growing public health crisis: 1 in 2 Malaysians are overweight, with 1 in 4 being physically inactive. The primary issue is that Malaysians find it tedious and uninteresting to maintain a healthy lifestyle, leading to a widespread lack of motivation.

The Ministry of Health commissioned Mechanikos to redefine how the BMSS national wellness campaign connected with the public. The challenge was multi-dimensional:

  • Low Engagement: Traditional health campaigns failed to resonate with younger demographics, resulting in passive awareness rather than active participation.
  • Fragmented Reach: Campaign messaging was siloed across separate channels — on-ground events lacked digital amplification and vice versa.
  • Demographic Diversity: Activities needed to cater to vastly different demographic groups across 319 locations throughout Malaysia for maximum relevance.
